In a tragic series of incidents, nine people lost their lives after being struck by lightning in different parts of Telangana on Thursday. The victims included farmers and agricultural labourers working in their fields when thunderstorms hit the region.
In Bhumpur village of Aija mandal, Gadwal district, three agricultural labourers – Sarvesu (24), Parvati (34), and Saubhagya (36) – died instantly when lightning struck while they were at work.
In another incident, three members of a family – farmer Alakunta Yellaiah (37), his wife Lakshmi (32), and his uncle Bandari Venkanna (50) – were killed while weeding their fields in Gummena Englapur village of Pembi mandal, Nirmal district.
Elsewhere, in Cheemagudem village of Gundala mandal, Bhadradri Kothagudem district, a farmer identified as Payam Narsayya (50) died after being struck by lightning.
In Khammam district, two more farmers lost their lives in separate incidents – Mahesh (32) of Satyanarayanapuram village in Sattupalli mandal, and Kalepadi Veerabhadra Rao (50) of Madipalli village near Madhira.
Officials expressed condolences to the bereaved families and advised farmers to stay indoors during thunderstorms, emphasizing the importance of precautionary measures to avoid such tragedies.
