Hyderabad Birth, Death Certificates to Get Easier: GHMC Set to Launch New CRS Portal
Getting Hyderabad birth and death certificates could soon become easier as the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) is set to introduce a new Civil Registration System (CRS) portal to simplify the registration process and speed up the issuance of certificates.
The upcoming online platform is expected to allow citizens to register births and deaths through a simplified digital process, potentially reducing delays and making it easier for residents to obtain official certificates.
GHMC to launch new CRS portal for birth and death registration
GHMC Commissioner RV Karnan recently held a meeting with officials to review the registration of births and deaths and discuss the implementation of the new CRS portal.
Officials were briefed on the provisions of the Registration of Births and Deaths (RBD) Act and the functioning of the upcoming digital platform.
The new system is expected to streamline the registration process and improve the time taken to issue birth and death certificates in Hyderabad.
The GHMC commissioner highlighted the importance of timely registration of births and deaths and the prompt issuance of certificates as key statutory responsibilities of the civic body. Hyderabad Birth, Death Certificates to Get Easier.
How the new GHMC CRS portal could help citizens
The proposed GHMC CRS portal is expected to make birth and death registration more convenient by shifting more of the process to a digital platform.
Once implemented, the system could help residents submit registration details online and access the certificate issuance process more efficiently.
The move is also expected to support GHMC’s efforts to improve digital civic services and reduce the difficulties citizens may face while completing birth and death registration procedures.
However, details regarding the exact launch date, registration process, required documents and online application procedure are yet to be officially announced by GHMC.
Registration of Births and Deaths Amendment Bill, 2026
The proposed CRS portal comes amid changes to the legal framework governing the registration of births and deaths in India.
The Rajya Sabha recently passed the Registration of Births and Deaths (Amendment) Bill, 2026, after the Bill was earlier cleared by the Lok Sabha.
The legislation seeks to amend the Registration of Births and Deaths Act, 1969, including provisions dealing with delayed registration.
New rules proposed for delayed birth and death registration
The amendment introduces a stricter two-tier system for delayed registration of births and deaths.
For registrations delayed by more than one year but up to two years, an order from the district magistrate, sub-divisional magistrate or an authorised executive magistrate will continue to be required.
For registrations delayed by more than two years, the order will have to be issued by a Judicial Magistrate of the First Class. Hyderabad Birth, Death Certificates to Get Easier.
This change shifts the authority for very late registrations from the executive administration to the judiciary.
Why timely registration is important
With stricter procedures for delayed registrations, timely registration of births and deaths becomes increasingly important for citizens.
A birth or death certificate is an important official record and may be required for various government, educational, legal and administrative purposes.
The proposed Hyderabad CRS portal is therefore expected to play an important role in making the registration process more accessible and improving the speed of certificate issuance.
When will the GHMC CRS portal launch?
GHMC has indicated that the new CRS system is being developed to simplify birth and death registration and improve certificate delivery. However, an official public launch date and complete details of the online application process have not yet been announced. Hyderabad Birth, Death Certificates to Get Easier.
