Hyderabad: CM Revanth directs speedy Old City metro works
CM Revanth Reddy asks HMRL officials to accelerate road widening, begin tender process for 7.5-km MGBS-Chandrayangutta corridor
Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy on Tuesday, August 11, directed officials to speed up the Old City metro works and take steps to meet the growing demand for metro services in Hyderabad.
The Chief Minister reviewed the progress of the 7.5-km metro corridor between Mahatma Gandhi Bus Station (MGBS) and Chandrayangutta, which is being developed as part of Phase II of the Hyderabad Metro Rail project.
Revanth reviews Old City metro works
During the review meeting, Revanth Reddy instructed Hyderabad Metro Rail Limited (HMRL) officials to accelerate road widening works along the proposed corridor.
He also directed officials to initiate the tender process without further delay to ensure that the project progresses at a faster pace.
The CM asked officials to consult the Delhi Metro regarding the appropriate technology to be used for the project.
He also reviewed the status of pending land acquisition and discussed expansion plans related to the Hyderabad Metro network.
Metro Phase II land acquisition
The review comes a day after the Telangana High Court allowed the Hyderabad Airport Metro Limited (HAML) to resume land acquisition for the Phase II project.
The court vacated a stay imposed in January 2025, which had halted the land acquisition process.
The development is expected to facilitate further progress on the expansion of Hyderabad’s metro rail network.
The Old City corridor is an important part of the proposed expansion, connecting MGBS with Chandrayangutta and improving public transport connectivity in the densely populated areas of Hyderabad.
New metro coaches to meet demand
Revanth Reddy also directed officials to procure new metro coaches in view of the increasing demand for metro rail services in the city.
The Chief Minister stressed the need to strengthen the metro network and improve its capacity as passenger numbers continue to grow.
Officials briefed the CM on the progress of ongoing works and the steps required to accelerate the project.
CM reviews Invest Telangana Global Summit
During the meeting, Revanth Reddy also reviewed preliminary arrangements for the Invest Telangana Global Summit, scheduled to be held in December.
The CM directed officials to organise the event on international standards with the aim of attracting major global investments to Telangana.
He also instructed officials to prepare and submit a detailed report on the investments attracted during last year’s summit and the progress made on those commitments.
The government is expected to use the upcoming summit to showcase Telangana’s investment opportunities and attract fresh investments across various sectors.
The Chief Minister directed officials to ensure that preparations for both the metro expansion and the investment summit move forward within the required timelines.
