CM Revanth Reddy to Inaugurate TIMS Sanathnagar on August 17
MCR TIMS Sanathnagar to open with 582 beds initially; remaining 500 beds expected to be operational by October
Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy is scheduled to inaugurate the Marri Chenna Reddy Telangana Institute of Medical Sciences (MCR TIMS) in Sanathnagar on August 17, paving the way for the hospital to formally open its services to the public.
The inauguration comes after the hospital missed two earlier opening deadlines. It was initially scheduled to open on December 9 last year and was later expected to be inaugurated around Ugadi in March. However, both plans were postponed as construction work took longer than expected.
MCR TIMS Sanathnagar to open with 582 beds
Built at an estimated cost of Rs 1,070 crore, the MCR TIMS Sanathnagar has been constructed on 22.6 acres within the Government Chest Hospital premises.
The hospital has already been conducting an outpatient trial since May, treating around 200 to 250 patients every day. The trial run is understood to have helped prepare the facility for its formal launch.
The hospital has a planned capacity of 1,082 beds. However, only 582 beds will be made operational during the initial phase. The remaining 500 beds are expected to become functional by October.
Four key speciality departments
MCR TIMS Sanathnagar will serve as a speciality healthcare hub, with four major departments forming the core of its services.
These include cardiology, nephrology and urology, organ transplantation, and trauma care. Around 37 additional departments are also planned to support the hospital’s operations.
The facility has been modelled on the Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS) and will function under a self-help model.
Under this system, the hospital will be expected to generate its own revenue instead of depending entirely on government funding. The state government has committed to providing grant support for around five to six years to help the institution establish itself.
Water and sewerage works cleared for three TIMS hospitals
Ahead of the Sanathnagar hospital’s inauguration, the Telangana government has also cleared the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWS&SB) tender process for water supply and sewerage infrastructure works worth Rs 13.5 crore.
The works will cover three TIMS hospitals located at Alwal, Sanathnagar and LB Nagar.
Officials said the tender process was cleared in advance instead of waiting for connection charges from the health department, which could have delayed the infrastructure works.
A government order has directed HMWS&SB to complete the required water supply and sewerage connections so that the hospitals can begin functioning without further delays.
The Rs 13.5-crore estimate includes water supply upgrades and sewerage infrastructure required across the three facilities. While financial sanctions and budget allocations are still being processed, the government has permitted HMWS&SB to proceed with the works in anticipation of the release of funds.
