Hyderabad, 12 June

Hyderabad Rains Force Diversion of CM Revanth Reddy’s Flight to Bengaluru. Heavy rainfall across Hyderabad and its surrounding areas on Friday evening led to the diversion of Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy’s flight from Delhi to Bengaluru after adverse weather conditions made landing at Hyderabad’s Rajiv Gandhi International Airport unsafe.

The Chief Minister had boarded an IndiGo flight from Delhi to Hyderabad at around 6:30 pm. However, as the aircraft approached Hyderabad, weather conditions deteriorated due to intense rainfall and poor visibility in the vicinity of the airport located in Shamshabad.

According to reports, Air Traffic Control (ATC) assessed the prevailing weather conditions and determined that landing operations could not be conducted safely at that time. As a precautionary measure, the flight was diverted to Bengaluru. The aircraft later landed safely at Kempegowda International Airport in Bengaluru.

The diversion of the Chief Minister’s flight highlighted the impact of the sudden spell of heavy rain that affected several parts of Hyderabad and neighbouring areas on Friday evening.

Several localities across Hyderabad witnessed moderate to heavy rainfall, leading to waterlogging and traffic congestion on major roads. Areas that received significant rainfall included Banjara Hills, Jubilee Hills, Film Nagar, Miyapur, Chandanagar, Serilingampally, Chintal, Balanagar, Lakdikapul, Punjagutta, Basheerbagh, Koti, Abids, Nampally, and Himayathnagar.

The downpour reduced visibility on roads and slowed vehicular movement across the city. Commuters returning home from offices faced long delays as traffic came to a near standstill at several busy junctions.

Traffic Disruptions Across the City

Hyderabad Rains; The heavy rainfall caused water accumulation on roads in multiple low-lying areas, disrupting normal traffic flow. Motorists were seen navigating through waterlogged stretches, while traffic police personnel were deployed at major intersections to regulate vehicle movement and prevent congestion from worsening.

Several commuters reported extended travel times due to slow-moving traffic. Public transport services also experienced minor delays as buses and other vehicles moved cautiously through rain-affected areas.

Officials monitored the situation closely and coordinated with civic departments to address reports of waterlogging and ensure smooth movement of traffic wherever possible.

Relief from Heat but Challenges for Commuters

While the rainfall brought temporary relief from the hot and humid weather conditions that had prevailed in recent days, it also created challenges for residents across the city. Pedestrians and two-wheeler riders were particularly affected as sudden showers caught many people off guard during peak evening hours.

Hyderabad Rains; Residents in several neighbourhoods shared videos and photographs of heavy rain, overflowing drains, and traffic congestion on social media platforms. The rainfall also led to a noticeable drop in temperatures across Hyderabad.

Weather Conditions Remain Under Watch

Authorities have advised citizens to remain cautious during periods of heavy rainfall and avoid unnecessary travel through waterlogged areas. Motorists have been urged to drive carefully, maintain safe distances, and follow traffic advisories issued by the police.

Weather officials have indicated that Hyderabad and adjoining districts may continue to experience intermittent rainfall over the coming days as monsoon activity remains active in the region. Civic agencies have been placed on alert to respond to any rain-related emergencies, including waterlogging, fallen trees, and traffic disruptions.

Flight Diversion Highlights Weather Impact

The diversion of Chief Minister Revanth Reddy’s flight underscores the extent of the weather disruption caused by Friday’s rainfall. Although flight operations generally continued at the Hyderabad airport, adverse conditions during the Chief Minister’s arrival window necessitated the precautionary diversion.

The aircraft landed safely in Bengaluru, and further travel arrangements were expected to be made based on weather conditions in Hyderabad.
