Student Ends Life After Harassment by Coach in Lalaguda
In a tragic incident, a 19-year-old student died by suicide after allegedly facing harassment from her college coach in the name of love. The incident took place under the jurisdiction of Lalaguda police station on Wednesday evening.
According to Inspector Raghu Babu, the deceased has been identified as Mauli (alias Vennela), daughter of retired railway employee Pramod Kumar, a resident of Lalapeta near Sai Baba temple. Mauli was pursuing her second year of BA at the Railway Degree College in Tarnaka.
Police said that a few months ago, a man named Ambaji, a resident of Manikeshwar Nagar, had joined the same college as a volleyball coach. He had allegedly been harassing Mauli in the name of love for the past several days. Distressed over the harassment, Mauli hanged herself from a ceiling fan at her residence when no family members were present.
Upon receiving information, police rushed to the spot and shifted the body to Gandhi Hospital mortuary for postmortem. Based on the complaint lodged by her family, a case has been registered against the coach.
Investigators further revealed that the data on Mauli’s cellphone appeared to have been completely erased. Efforts are underway to retrieve the deleted data for evidence. Meanwhile, the accused coach Ambaji is absconding, and police have launched a manhunt to nab him.
