Hyderabad Man Finds Uncooked Chicken, Paper in Food Ordered via Zomato

Hyderabad, 12 September

A software developer in the city was left shocked after discovering uncooked chicken pieces and a piece of paper in a meal he ordered via Zomato on Friday, September 12.

The customer, identified as Aditya Irri, had placed an order for curd rice from Rice Bowl, Kondapur. On opening the parcel, he reportedly found pieces of raw chicken along with paper. Irri took to social media platform X (formerly Twitter) to share pictures of the parcel and tagged the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) and the Telangana food safety department, seeking immediate action.

In response, the GHMC wrote:

“Dear Citizen, the issue has been noted and brought to the notice of the assistant food commissioner.”

Meanwhile, food aggregator Zomato also responded:

“This is deeply concerning, Aditya, and we want to get to the bottom of it. We will take up the issue with the partner restaurant.”

This comes amid rising complaints of food delivery mishaps. In another recent case, a customer named Ananya recounted her ordeal with Zomato’s AI chatbot Zia, after receiving the wrong dish. She claimed that when she ordered chicken manchuria but was delivered chicken 65 instead, a Zomato representative oddly told her:

“We request you to please have it… we are sure you will love it.”

Both incidents have triggered fresh debate on food safety standards, customer service quality, and the reliance on AI-driven grievance redressal systems in food delivery platforms.
