The city is witnessing a rise in viral fevers and dengue-like infections, with small and medium private clinics, nursing homes, the State-run Fever Hospital at Nallakunta, and local Basthi Dawakhanas reporting increased outpatient visits.
Children Most Affected
A majority of the cases involve children, who are showing typical symptoms such as cough, body pains, sore throat, runny nose, and varying degrees of fever. Some patients are also developing rashes and are being treated as suspected dengue cases, doctors said.
“Cases of viral fevers have increased, with our outpatient inflow rising to 900-1,200 patients daily from Hyderabad and surrounding districts. Almost all patients are being treated as outpatients and recovering within three to four days,” said Dr. A Jayalakshmi, Senior Resident Medical Officer at Fever Hospital.
Major Hospitals Report High Patient Inflow
Gandhi Hospital and Osmania General Hospital have also recorded a marked rise in OPD visits, with over 2,000 patients per day presenting viral fever, dengue, or chikungunya-like symptoms.
To manage the surge, Dr. N Vani, Superintendent and Additional Director of Medical Education, directed hospitals to extend outpatient timings until 1:30 pm, up from the previous 12:30 pm closure.
Public Health Advisory
Earlier, the Director of Public Health, Dr. B Ravinder Nayak, urged Hyderabad residents to take precautions against vector and water-borne diseases such as malaria, dengue, chikungunya, typhoid, and gastroenteritis.
Residents are advised to maintain proper hygiene, avoid mosquito breeding spots, and seek medical attention if symptoms persist.
