Days after the shocking murder of 50-year-old Renu Agarwal inside her flat at the Swan Lake gated community in Kukatpally, police have arrested two accused, including her former house cook. The arrests were made in Ranchi, Jharkhand, on Saturday, September 13.
The accused, identified as Harsh and Raushan, were produced before a Ranchi court before being taken to Hyderabad. Police revealed that Harsh previously worked as a domestic help in Renu’s house and was replaced just 10 days before the murder. Raushan was employed at Renu’s brother-in-law’s house on the same floor.
Investigators said the duo had planned the crime in advance, targeting the valuables in the house. Police suspect a total of five domestic workers may be involved in the conspiracy.
According to police, on Wednesday afternoon, Harsh and Raushan entered Renu’s flat, tied her up, and tortured her for nearly an hour, demanding locker keys. When she refused, they allegedly smashed her head with a cooker and later slit her throat with a knife, killing her on the spot.
The assailants then stole cash and jewellery, bathed in the house, and escaped on the owner’s scooty, which was later found abandoned near Hafeezpet railway station.
Cyberabad Police Commissioner Avinash Mohanty confirmed that seven tolas of gold had been recovered from the accused. He urged citizens to ensure background verification of domestic workers before hiring.
Police believe more suspects connected to the gang are active in Hyderabad, working as domestic helpers.
Renu is survived by her husband, Rakesh Agarwal, and son Shubham.
