Medak police have arrested a woman and her paramour for allegedly killing her two-year-old daughter to continue their extra-marital relationship. The case, which occurred in June, was cracked after three months of investigation.
According to police, Mamatha, a resident of Shabashpally village in Sivampet mandal, and her partner Fayaz, strangulated her daughter Tanu Sri, who was suffering from fever, on June 7, and buried her near agricultural fields.
The incident came to light after Bantu Raju, Mamatha’s father, lodged a complaint that both his daughter and granddaughter had gone missing. Earlier this year, Mamatha had eloped with Fayaz in March, but police had tracked them and reunited them with their families. The couple eloped again in May, and police had been searching for them since.
Medak Deputy Superintendent of Police stated that Mamatha and Fayaz considered Tanu Sri an obstacle to their relationship. Before committing the crime, Mamatha misled her parents, claiming that her husband, Bhaskar, had consumed pesticide and was hospitalized. She left her five-year-old son with her parents and took Tanu Sri with her under the pretext of taking her to a hospital.
A joint police team from Sivampet and Toopran stations tracked the couple to Narsaraopeta in Guntur district. During interrogation, both Mamatha and Fayaz confessed to the crime.
The police exhumed Tanu Sri’s body on Saturday, September 13, in the presence of a Sivampet mandal revenue officer and medical experts. Due to heavy rains in the past months, the body was found in a badly decomposed condition.
The DSP confirmed that the investigation is ongoing to determine if others were involved or if additional details about the crime emerge.
