World Leaders Welcome First Phase of Israel-Hamas Peace Deal, Urge Swift Implementation

World leaders on Thursday expressed hope and urged Israel and Hamas to honor their commitments after U.S. President Donald Trump announced the first phase of a peace deal aimed at ending the two-year conflict in Gaza.

Under the agreement, Hamas will release all 20 living hostages in the coming days in exchange for Palestinian prisoners, while the Israeli military will begin withdrawing from most of Gaza.

President Trump wrote on social media: “This means that ALL of the Hostages will be released very soon, and Israel will withdraw their Troops to an agreed-upon line as the first steps toward a Strong, Durable, and Everlasting Peace.” Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu echoed the sentiment, stating: “With God’s help we will bring them all home.”

Global Reactions

United Nations:


UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres welcomed the agreement and promised support for the full implementation, including humanitarian relief, recovery, and reconstruction in Gaza. He emphasized seizing this “momentous opportunity” to establish a political path towards ending the occupation, recognizing Palestinian self-determination, and achieving a two-state solution.

Canada:


Prime Minister Mark Carney called the development a relief for hostages and urged all parties to implement the agreement swiftly, praising the role of Qatar, Egypt, and Turkey in mediating the talks.

Argentina:


President Javier Milei publicly endorsed Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize, recognizing his contribution to international peace and mediation.

Malaysia:


Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim described the agreement as offering hope after months of suffering and devastation, calling on all parties to move towards comprehensive, lasting peace.

Japan:
