Telangana to Deposit Rs 2,400 Crore Fee Reimbursement in Advance
CM Revanth Reddy says students will receive fee reimbursement within a month of applying online from the 2026-27 academic year
Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy has announced that the state government will deposit Rs 2,400 crore towards fee reimbursement directly into students’ bank accounts in advance from the 2026-27 academic year.
Reddy said Rs 250 crore has already been made available for fee reimbursement payments. The announcement comes after the government decided to release the reimbursement amount in four phases every year, with Rs 250 crore being released each month.
Addressing a public meeting after unveiling the statues of Mahatma Jyotiba Phule and Savitribai Phule at Necklace Road on Friday, August 14, the Chief Minister said the fee reimbursement amount would be credited to students’ bank accounts within a month of submitting their online applications.
The government said the new payment system is aimed at preventing colleges from withholding students’ certificates because of delays in fee reimbursement payments.
New course to be introduced from nursery to Class 12
Reddy also announced that a new course will be introduced for students from nursery to Class 12.
“We are already providing comprehensive facilities, including breakfast, starting from the nursery level,” the Chief Minister said, stressing that merely possessing a certificate is no longer sufficient in the competitive job market.
He emphasised the importance of acquiring technical skills alongside formal education to improve employment opportunities.
“Even IT professionals are losing their jobs and returning home,” Reddy remarked.
ATC students to receive Rs 2,000 monthly stipend
The Chief Minister said Advanced Technical Centers (ATCs) have been established in all 119 Assembly constituencies in collaboration with the Tata Group.
According to Reddy, students enrolled in the ATCs receive a monthly stipend of Rs 2,000.
He said the primary objective of the centres is to provide students with technical skills alongside formal education.
Reddy also spoke about the Group-1 recruitment examinations and said 60 per cent of the selected candidates belonged to the Backward Classes (BC).
He noted that increasing competition in education has made it important for students to develop additional skills and qualifications.
Revanth Reddy promises rewards and jobs for sportspersons
Speaking about the establishment of the Young India Sports University, Reddy said the institution would provide opportunities for students who excel in sports.
The Chief Minister said the government would provide cash rewards and jobs to athletes who excel and win medals.
“It is my responsibility to provide cash rewards and jobs to those who excel in sports and win medals,” Reddy said, adding that education provides opportunities that young people must make use of.
Revanth takes swipe at BRS over BC community
Reddy also criticised the previous Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) government, alleging that the BC community had not been provided enough opportunities to pursue higher education.
He alleged that the previous government had confined members of the BC community to traditional occupations such as cattle rearing and footwear-related work.
“Are we still expected to stitch footwear? Are we still expected to just herd sheep and buffaloes? Shouldn’t this community get educated? Shouldn’t they become IAS officers?” he asked.
Reddy further alleged that the BRS leadership wanted political power to remain within their own families.
CM highlights Telangana BC Census
Reddy also highlighted the state government’s BC Census, claiming that no other state had conducted such a census since the British era.
He said Telangana conducted the census and determined the population figures of the BC community within a year.
The Chief Minister appealed to young people to draw inspiration from Jyotirao Phule and pursue careers in politics, medicine, engineering and other professions.
He also referred to the long-standing demand for Scheduled Caste categorisation and claimed that Telangana became the first state in the country to implement SC categorisation.
Revanth Reddy vows to improve education and nutrition
Reddy reiterated his commitment to providing quality education and nutritious food to students across Telangana.
“I will work 18 hours a day for your golden future,” he said, urging young people to make use of the opportunities provided by the government.
The Chief Minister also said that eliminating the caste system and developing social consciousness would require people to learn and live together in unity.
