
Angry over curry, Hyderabad husband allegedly pushes wife; she dies

A 19-year-old woman died after her husband allegedly pushed her during an argument over the taste of curry at their home in Katedan, Hyderabad, on Sunday, August 9.
The deceased was identified as Shikshanjali Kumari, who married Chandan Kumar in April 2026. The couple lived in Sri Ram Nagar Colony, Katedan, and worked as daily-wage labourers.
According to the Mailardevpally police, the couple often quarrelled over financial issues.
Argument reportedly began over curry
Police said the incident occurred when Shikshanjali served food to her husband. Kumar was reportedly unhappy with the taste of the curry, which led to an argument between the couple.
During the quarrel, the Hyderabad husband allegedly pushed his wife, causing her to lose balance and fall. She hit her head against a wall and suffered a serious injury.
Kumar reportedly rushed her to Osmania General Hospital. However, doctors declared Shikshanjali dead on arrival.
Mother approaches police
On Monday, August 10, Shikshanjali’s mother approached the Mailardevpally police and lodged a complaint regarding her daughter’s death. Angry over curry, Hyderabad husband allegedly pushes wife; she dies.
Police subsequently took Chandan Kumar into custody and began an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
A police official said the incident occurred on Sunday and that Kumar would be produced before a court.
Husband booked under BNS
Chandan Kumar was arrested under Section 105 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for culpable homicide not amounting to murder.
The police are investigating the circumstances that led to the fatal fall and the events surrounding the couple’s argument.
The death of the 19-year-old woman has raised concerns over domestic disputes and violence, with the investigation continuing.
