CJP Seeks Written Assurance From Govt, Warns of Fresh Protest
The CJP seeks written assurance from govt on the withdrawal of criminal cases against protesters and organisers following its 36-day agitation at Jantar Mantar. The Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) on Monday, July 27, said it was waiting for the government to share the promised written agreement and warned that it could resume its protest if the assurance was not received by Tuesday.
CJP national spokesperson Ashutosh Ranka said the issue had been discussed during the third round of talks with the government before the agitation was called off. He said both sides had agreed that FIRs registered against protesters and organisers across the country would be withdrawn.
CJP Awaits Written Agreement
The CJP seeks written assurance from govt after submitting a draft agreement to Union ministers J P Nadda and Jitendra Singh during negotiations. According to Ranka, the government had agreed to provide a written agreement by Tuesday after completing legal consultations.
“We are waiting for the government to share the written agreement,” Ranka said at a press conference.
He expressed hope that a senior Cabinet minister would honour the understanding reached during the talks and ensure that FIRs were withdrawn. He also said protesters and organisers should not be harassed or face fresh criminal cases in the future.

Warning of Fresh Protest
Ranka warned that the organisation could be forced to resume its agitation if the written agreement was not received by Tuesday and protesters and organisers arrested in connection with the movement were not released.

CJP chief spokesperson Saurav Das said the organisation had ended its protest “in good faith” after the government agreed to act on its principal demands or assured action within specified timelines.

CJP Raises Concern Over Individual Targeting
Ranka said the organisation had consulted senior advocate Kapil Sibal before and after calling off the protest to ensure that the youth movement was not weakened through what he described as politically motivated litigation or other attempts to target participants individually.
He said the organisation had anticipated that protesters could face individual action after the movement lost momentum. According to Ranka, similar approaches had allegedly been used during other protests.
The CJP seeks written assurance from govt amid these concerns and wants the government’s commitment to be formally documented.
Ranka also said the organisation had been providing legal and medical assistance to protesters across the country since the beginning of the movement.
Kapil Sibal Opposes Action Against Students
Senior advocate Kapil Sibal, who also attended the press conference, said students who participated in the protest should not face punitive action.
Sibal described the agitation as an organic movement and argued that governments should not take action against students for participating in peaceful dissent.

CJP Had Called Off 36-Day Agitation
The CJP ended its 36-day agitation at Jantar Mantar on Saturday after the government accepted key demands raised by protesters. These included the resignation of then Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, along with assurances that action would be taken on other demands within an agreed timeline.
The CJP seeks written assurance from govt before deciding its next course of action. The organisation has made clear that failure to receive the agreement and release detained protesters could lead to renewed demonstrations.
