Hyderabad Youth Courage (HYC) founder and BRS leader Salman Khan allegedly attempted suicide on Friday, August 14, following the registration of a police case against him over an objectionable poster involving Goshamahal MLA T Raja Singh.

HYC claimed that Khan took the extreme step due to alleged harassment by the police and government. The organisation shared a video on Facebook showing Khan receiving treatment at a hospital.

Police case against Salman Khan

The alleged incident came hours after the Mehdipatnam police registered a case against Salman Khan for allegedly sharing an objectionable poster featuring T Raja Singh.

According to the complaint, V Laxman, a resident of Mangalhat, approached the police after allegedly coming across videos showing Salman Khan and two others erecting a poster carrying a footwear print over Singh’s photograph. The poster reportedly contained derogatory and religiously provocative references to Raja Singh and called upon people to sign a campaign against him.

The complainant alleged that Khan and others were involved in provocative acts of a religious nature and were attempting to promote religious hatred for personal benefit.

Sections invoked under BNS

Based on the complaint, the Mehdipatnam police registered a case under Sections 196, 299, 352 and 292, read with Section 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

The sections relate to offences including promoting enmity between groups on religious grounds, deliberate acts intended to outrage religious feelings, intentional insult intended to provoke a breach of peace, public nuisance and common intention.

Mehdipatnam police deny harassment allegations

The Mehdipatnam police have denied allegations that Salman Khan was harassed by the police.

According to the police, a case was registered against Khan, but he had not appeared at the police station. The police questioned how he could claim to have been harassed by them when he had not visited the station.
