Leopard Cub Found Dead on Srisailam Road in Amrabad Tiger Reserve
A six-to-eight-month-old leopard cub was found dead under suspicious circumstances on the Srisailam road within the Amrabad Tiger Reserve (ATR) limits late on Sunday.
The carcass was found near the Gundam checkpost, located on the Srisailam road from where safari vehicles enter the tiger reserve.
No external injuries found
According to forest officials, no visible external injuries were found on the leopard cub. A postmortem examination is scheduled to determine the exact cause of death.
Officials suspect that the cub may have been hit by a vehicle while crossing the road. However, the exact circumstances surrounding its death will be established only after the postmortem examination. Leopard Cub Found Dead on Srisailam Road in Amrabad Tiger Reserve.
Rising traffic raises concern
The area where the cub was found is known for frequent movement of wild animals. Forest officials said the possibility of a vehicle collision cannot be ruled out, particularly given the increasing traffic movement towards Srisailam.
Vehicular traffic on the route has reportedly increased significantly during weekends. Although restrictions are imposed on vehicle movement during late hours, officials have expressed concern that heavy traffic through the reserve could pose a threat to wildlife.
The forest department is expected to determine the exact cause of the cub’s death following the postmortem examination.
