Hyderabad, 10 June
Hyderabad: In a major relief for students across the state, the Telangana government has decided to transfer Telangana Post Matric Scholarships directly into the bank accounts of eligible beneficiaries from the academic year 2026-27.
The move aims to improve transparency, efficiency, and ease of access in the scholarship distribution process.
The decision applies to both the Reimbursement of Tuition Fee (RTF) and Maintenance Fee (MTF) schemes, which currently provide financial assistance to lakhs of students pursuing higher education in Telangana.
Under the existing system, scholarship amounts are transferred directly to educational institutions. However, under the revised mechanism, the funds will be credited directly to the bank accounts of students, enabling them to make fee payments to their respective colleges and institutions.
Telangana Introduces Direct Benefit Transfer for Scholarships
The Telangana government has introduced a Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) mechanism for scholarship disbursement. According to orders issued by the Social Welfare Department on June 6, the new system will ensure that scholarship funds reach students without delays or intermediaries.
The initiative will be implemented through the Aadhaar Payment Bridge System (APBS), a digital payment platform that allows government benefits to be transferred directly to Aadhaar-linked bank accounts.
Under this system, eligible students will receive scholarship amounts directly into their Aadhaar-linked bank accounts. Once the amount is credited, students can pay their tuition fees and other educational expenses to their institutions.
Officials believe that the Direct Benefit Transfer model will reduce administrative delays, enhance accountability, and provide students with greater control over their scholarship funds.
Who Will Benefit from Telangana Post Matric Scholarships?
The revised Telangana Post Matric Scholarships system will benefit students belonging to several socially and economically disadvantaged communities.
The categories covered under the scheme include:
- Scheduled Castes (SC)
- Scheduled Tribes (ST)
- Backward Classes (BC)
- Economically Backward Classes (EBC)
- Minority Communities
- Persons with Disabilities (PwDs)
Thousands of students from these categories depend on scholarship assistance every year to continue their education. The government expects the new system to simplify the scholarship process and improve the overall student experience.
ePass Registration Mandatory for Scholarship Benefits
To avail the benefits of Telangana Post Matric Scholarships, students must register on the ePass portal during the admission process. Registration on the portal remains a mandatory requirement for receiving scholarship assistance under the state’s welfare schemes.
Officials clarified that while the ePass portal will remain open throughout the year, scholarship amounts will be released in a single installment during each academic year.
Students are therefore advised to complete their registration accurately and ensure that their Aadhaar details and bank account information are updated and linked properly to avoid payment issues.
Benefits of the New Scholarship System
The Telangana government’s decision to introduce direct scholarship transfers is expected to offer several benefits:
- Faster disbursement of scholarship funds
- Increased transparency in payments
- Reduced dependency on institutions for fund transfers
- Direct access to financial assistance for students
- Better monitoring and tracking of scholarship payments
- Elimination of delays caused by administrative procedures
Education experts have welcomed the move, stating that direct transfers will empower students and ensure that financial assistance reaches beneficiaries without complications.
Telangana Government Focuses on Student Welfare
The introduction of Direct Benefit Transfer for Telangana Post Matric Scholarships reflects the government’s continued focus on student welfare and digital governance. By leveraging technology and Aadhaar-based payment systems, the state aims to make educational assistance programmes more accessible and efficient.
With the new system set to be implemented from the 2026-27 academic year, eligible students are encouraged to complete their ePass registrations and maintain updated Aadhaar-linked bank account details to receive scholarship benefits seamlessly.
The initiative is expected to benefit lakhs of students across Telangana and strengthen access to higher education through timely financial support.
