TG SAFE Seizes 2,480 Kg of Sweets Worth ₹3.78 Lakh, Suspends 3 FSSAI Licences in Hyderabad

The Telangana Standards Authority for Food and Essential Drugs (TG SAFE) seized 2,480 kg of sweets worth ₹3.78 lakh and suspended the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) licences of three establishments following inspections in the Hyderabad region on Thursday, October 15.

Officials also shut down two units — Madhura Dairy Products in Cheeryal village, Medchal-Malkajgiri district, and Desi Dairy Sweets in Jalpally — for allegedly operating without FSSAI licences and maintaining unhygienic conditions.

The inspections uncovered several food safety violations, including damaged flooring, food waste, inadequate drainage, stagnant water, dirty walls and reported infestations of houseflies and rodents.

TG SAFE Finds Hygiene Violations at Sweet Shops

During the inspections, officials reportedly found that some food handlers were working without essential protective equipment, including hairnets and gloves.

Mandatory documentation, such as pest-control records and health records of food handlers, was also missing at some premises. Officials further reported finding gutka and pan masala packets and spitting stains inside the inspected facilities.

The findings raised concerns about sanitation, food handling practices and compliance with food safety requirements at the establishments.

Three FSSAI Licences Suspended

TG SAFE suspended the FSSAI licences of the following establishments in Jeedimetla:

  • Bhagya Laxmi Sweets and Burfi: Inspectors reportedly found flies on sweets, cobwebs in the kitchen, unhygienic conditions and gutka stains near the food preparation area.
  • Balaji Magic Mithai: Officials reported an unhygienic manufacturing area, damaged and slippery flooring, dirty walls, improper storage practices and missing mandatory records.
  • Yashoda Dairy: Inspectors reportedly found houseflies, unhygienic drainage, a rusted cold room and food handlers working without headcaps and aprons.

At Yashoda Dairy, officials also noted the absence of insect-proof screens. Gutka packets and beedis were reportedly found in the manufacturing area, while milk procurement and pest-control records were missing.

The licence suspensions were part of the enforcement action taken following the inspections.

Two Units Shut Over Licensing and Hygiene Issues

Madhura Dairy Products in Cheeryal village and Desi Dairy Sweets in Jalpally were shut down, according to TG SAFE, for operating without FSSAI licences and maintaining unhygienic premises.

Officials also issued show-cause notices to Madhura Dairy Products, Desi Dairy Sweets and Jagannath Milk Dairy in Peerzadiguda over the reported violations.

A show-cause notice gives an establishment an opportunity to respond to the allegations before further action is considered.

Further Action Against Violators

TG SAFE stated that further action, including penalties, would be initiated in accordance with the applicable rules.

The inspections highlight the importance of maintaining hygienic manufacturing and storage facilities, ensuring that food handlers use appropriate protective equipment, and keeping mandatory food safety records up to date.

Consumers are advised to purchase sweets and dairy products from licensed establishments that follow proper food safety and hygiene practices.

This report is based on the information provided and has not been independently verified. The reported violations are attributed to TG SAFE’s inspection findings.
