Car Drags Fuel Nozzle, Sparks Fire at Petrol Pump
A potentially catastrophic accident was narrowly avoided after a fuel dispenser caught fire at a Hindustan Petroleum (HP) petrol pump on National Highway 44 (NH-44) in Shadnagar, Hyderabad, on Friday morning (July 3).
The incident occurred at approximately 7:20 am, when a car allegedly drove away while the fuel nozzle was still inserted into the vehicle’s fuel tank. As the vehicle moved forward, the fuel dispenser was pulled from its position and fell to the ground, leading to a suspected electrical short circuit that ignited the fire.
According to officials from the Shadnagar Fire Station, the sudden tension caused by the moving vehicle likely snapped electrical wires inside the dispenser.
“The tension must have caused some electrical wires to snap, resulting in a short circuit,” a fire department official said.
Fuel Dispenser Engulfed in Flames
A video of the incident, which has since surfaced online, shows flames and thick smoke billowing from the fallen fuel dispenser. The visuals highlight the seriousness of the incident and the potential danger posed by fires at fuel stations.
Fortunately, the petrol pump staff responded immediately and used fire extinguishers to control the flames before they could spread to nearby fuel dispensers or parked vehicles.
By the time the fire tender reached the scene, the fire had already been brought largely under control, preventing what could have been a major disaster.
Prompt Action Prevents Major Disaster
The quick response by the petrol bunk employees played a crucial role in containing the blaze within minutes. Fire officials confirmed that the flames were extinguished before they could trigger a larger explosion or cause extensive damage.
Authorities have praised the staff’s presence of mind, which helped avert a potentially life-threatening situation at the busy fuel station. Car Drags Fuel Nozzle, Sparks Fire at Petrol Pump.
