Cyberabad Police Arrest 15 Cybercrime Accused, Refund Rs 2 Crore to Victims
The Cyberabad Cybercrime Police arrested 15 accused involved in various cyber fraud cases and facilitated the refund of more than Rs 2.01 crore to victims between June 18 and June 24.
The arrests were made as part of an intensified crackdown on cybercriminal networks operating across multiple states. Trading Fraud Cases Account for Most Arrests
According to Cyberabad Police, the majority of the accused were linked to online trading fraud schemes.
Out of the 15 arrests:
- 10 accused were arrested in four trading fraud cases.
- Four accused were arrested in two digital arrest fraud cases.
- One accused was arrested in a job fraud case.
Officials said investigations are continuing to identify additional suspects and recover more defrauded money.
Major Digital Arrest Fraud Case Cracked
In one of the most significant cases reported during the week, Cyberabad Cybercrime Police arrested three accused from Maharashtra in connection with a digital arrest scam that cheated a victim of Rs 15.15 lakh.
The fraudsters allegedly contacted the victim while posing as officials from the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI). They falsely claimed that the victim’s Aadhaar number had been linked to illegal activities, including money laundering, terror funding, and activities related to the banned Popular Front of India (PFI). Fraudsters Used Fake Officials and Forged Documents
Police said the victim later received WhatsApp video calls from individuals impersonating police officers and Enforcement Directorate (ED) officials.
The accused allegedly displayed forged government documents, fake arrest warrants, and fabricated legal notices to convince the victim that criminal proceedings were being initiated.
Using fear and intimidation, the fraudsters allegedly subjected the victim to what is commonly known as a “digital arrest.”
Victim Kept Under Constant Surveillance
Investigators revealed that the fraudsters continuously monitored the victim’s activities and instructed him not to contact family members or anyone else during the so-called investigation.
The victim was reportedly forced to share:
- Personal information
- Aadhaar details
- Bank account information
- Identity documents
The fraudsters even instructed the victim to send selfies every two hours to verify his location and ensure compliance.

Three Maharashtra Accused Arrested
The arrested accused have been identified as:
- Rajan Sammi Sharma
- Shrawan Dhanraj Raut
- Kamlesh Rameshwar Maraskole
According to police, the trio allegedly supplied mule bank accounts that were used to route the fraudulently obtained funds in exchange for commissions.
Authorities are investigating whether the accused were part of a larger cybercrime network operating across multiple states.
Police Urge Public to Stay Alert
Cyberabad Police have advised citizens to remain cautious and remember that no law enforcement agency conducts investigations or arrests through video calls.
Officials urged people not to share personal information, banking details, OTPs, or identity documents with unknown callers and to immediately report suspicious calls to cybercrime authorities.
