Despite growing concerns that Artificial Intelligence (AI) could reshape the software industry and impact future employment opportunities, engineering colleges across Telangana continue to place their biggest bet on Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) programmes.
The latest engineering seat matrix released by the Technical Education Department for the 2026-27 academic year shows that CSE and its allied branches continue to dominate admissions under the TG EAPCET 2026 counselling process. According to official data, 58,038 out of 81,620 seats available under the TG EAPCET 2026 convener quota belong to Computer Science and Engineering and related specializations.
The figures highlight the sustained demand for technology-focused courses despite ongoing discussions about AI-driven automation and its impact on traditional software jobs.
Among all engineering streams, Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) alone accounts for 27,431 seats, making it the largest branch in Telangana engineering colleges for the 2026-27 academic year.

Core Engineering Branches Offer Fewer Seats
While CSE-related programmes continue to expand, traditional engineering disciplines account for a significantly smaller share of available seats.
The seat matrix shows:
- 15,579 seats in Electronics and Electrical Engineering branches
- 6,871 seats in Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and allied streams
- 916 seats in specialized programmes such as Chemical Engineering, Agricultural Engineering, Food Technology, and Geo-Informatics
The data indicates a clear shift in institutional focus toward software and technology-oriented education.

Overall, Telangana’s 175 engineering colleges are offering 1,14,007 seats for the 2026-27 academic year.
Of these:
- 81,620 seats will be filled through TG EAPCET 2026 web-based counselling.
- The remaining seats will be allotted under management quotas by individual colleges.

TG EAPCET 2026 Counselling Update
Officials reported that 84,002 candidates have registered for TG EAPCET 2026 counselling.
However, only 36,393 students had completed certificate verification as of Wednesday.
The deadline for certificate verification is June 29, while students can exercise their web options from June 25 to July 1.
To help candidates make informed choices, authorities will release a mock seat allotment on or before July 4, allowing students to modify their options if required.
