Hyderabad Rain Alert: IMD Issues Orange Warning, Police Advise Against Non-Essential Travel
A Hyderabad Rain Alert has been issued after the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecast heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, and strong surface winds across several districts of Telangana. In response, Hyderabad Police have advised residents to avoid unnecessary travel, particularly during the evening hours when intense rainfall is expected.
The IMD has issued an orange alert for Kamareddy, Medchal-Malkajgiri, Medak, and Sangareddy, warning of heavy rain accompanied by thunderstorms and gusty winds. Light to moderate rainfall is also likely in Hyderabad, Rangareddy, Nizamabad, Nalgonda, Warangal, Yadadri Bhuvanagiri, and Khammam.
According to the weather department, strong surface winds of 30–40 kmph are expected at isolated places across Telangana. The Hyderabad Rain Alert also states that these weather conditions are likely to continue over various parts of the state until August 9.
With heavy showers expected during evening peak traffic hours, Hyderabad Traffic Police have advised office-goers and commuters to carefully plan their journeys to avoid traffic congestion, waterlogged roads, and low-lying areas that are prone to flooding.
Hyderabad City Police Commissioner V.C. Sajjanar urged citizens to remain vigilant and avoid stepping out unless absolutely necessary. In a message shared on social media, he advised residents to complete essential work early and return home before the rainfall intensifies.
The Commissioner also cautioned motorists against driving through flooded roads and instructed drivers to reduce speed during rainfall to prevent accidents. Residents were advised to stay indoors wherever possible and remain alert during adverse weather conditions.
The Hyderabad Rain Alert comes as civic authorities continue monitoring rainfall and preparedness measures across the city. Emergency teams have been kept on standby to respond to incidents related to waterlogging, fallen trees, and traffic disruptions.
Authorities have appealed to the public to follow official weather updates, avoid unnecessary travel during heavy rain, and immediately contact emergency services if assistance is required.
