A 20-year-old youth was safely rescued after being trapped inside a skywalk lift at Uppal in Hyderabad for nearly two hours on Thursday night, triggering concern over safety and maintenance standards.
The incident occurred when the victim, identified as Rahul, a resident of Sri Lakshmi Venkateswara Boys Hostel in Uppal and an employee at a private firm, was returning to his accommodation after completing his duty shift.
Lift Malfunction Leaves Passenger Stranded Midway
According to reports, Rahul boarded the 6B skywalk lift when it suddenly malfunctioned and came to a halt midway, leaving him stranded inside the elevator with no immediate exit.
The unexpected breakdown caused panic, as the youth remained trapped for an extended period without prompt rescue access.
Emergency Teams Launch Rescue Operation
Following alerts, personnel from HYDRA, Uppal police, and the fire department rushed to the location and initiated rescue operations.
Authorities worked continuously to open the lift doors and ensure the safe evacuation of the trapped individual. However, the rescue operation reportedly continued for nearly two hours due to technical difficulties.
Youth Safely Evacuated
After sustained efforts, a technician successfully opened the lift, and Rahul was safely rescued at approximately 1:15 am.
Officials confirmed that the youth was unharmed after the prolonged ordeal.
Questions Raised Over Maintenance and Response Delay
Meanwhile, concerns have been raised regarding the delay in response and maintenance lapses. Allegations suggest that the absence of timely action from Krishna Constructions staff, responsible for lift maintenance, along with HMDA officials, contributed to the delayed rescue operation.
