Meta India Head Booked in Hyderabad Over Instagram, Facebook Posts on PM Modi
In a significant development, the Meta India Head Booked in Hyderabad case has drawn attention after the Hyderabad Cybercrime Police registered cases against Meta India head Arun Srinivas and several Instagram and Facebook users over alleged objectionable and doctored posts targeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The cases were registered on Wednesday, July 29, following complaints filed by supporters of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) regarding social media posts circulated during protests over the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) paper leak.
BJP Supporters File Complaint
The Meta India Head Booked in Hyderabad case was initiated after BJP supporters approached the Hyderabad Cybercrime Police seeking action against users who allegedly shared manipulated content on social media platforms.
One of the complainants, T. Saikiran Goud (32), a core member of the Telangana BJP social media team, submitted a complaint listing 20 Instagram and Facebook links that allegedly contained objectionable content.
He also urged authorities to take action against Meta, claiming the platform allowed such posts to remain accessible.
Cases Registered Under BNS and IT Act
Based on the complaint, Hyderabad Cybercrime Police registered cases under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Information Technology (IT) Act.
According to police, the case names owners of several social media accounts along with Meta India head Arun Srinivas as a co-accused.
The Meta India Head Booked in Hyderabad matter is currently under investigation as authorities attempt to identify the individuals responsible for the alleged posts.
Police Issue Notice to Meta
According to officials, a formal notice has been issued to Meta regarding the registered cases.
Police said they are seeking information related to the reported accounts and objectionable posts to assist with the investigation.
Officials also stated that efforts are underway to collect details of the accused persons so that appropriate legal action can be taken.
Reported Social Media Links No Longer Active
During the investigation, police found that all the Instagram and Facebook links mentioned in the complaint had become inactive.
Authorities have not clarified whether the content was removed by the account holders or taken down for any other reason.
Despite the links being unavailable, the Meta India Head Booked in Hyderabad case will continue as investigators gather digital evidence and verify the identities of those involved.
