Organ Donation Telangana: Two Brain-Dead Donors Help Save Eight Lives
Two brain-dead donors from Telangana have helped save the lives of eight people through organ donation, Hyderabad Commissioner of Police VC Sajjanar said on Sunday, September 20.
In a post on X, Sajjanar paid tribute to the donors and appreciated their families for making the decision to donate their organs despite their loss.
The two donors were identified as Vinay, 26, a techie from Kamareddy, and Padma Andalu, 60, from Yadadri Bhuvanagiri district.
Organ Donation in Telangana Helps Eight People
According to Sajjanar’s post, Vinay collapsed after suffering from a brain tumour on September 16 and was declared brain-dead on September 19.
Following the decision to donate his organs, Vinay’s kidneys and liver helped four patients, with each kidney and the liver benefiting separate recipients. His heart was also donated and helped save another life.
In total, Vinay’s donated organs helped five people.
The second donor, Padma Andalu, developed a high fever on September 17 and was subsequently taken to a hospital. She was declared brain-dead on September 19.
Her husband agreed to donate her organs. According to Sajjanar, Padma’s liver and both kidneys helped save three lives.
Together, the two donors helped provide organs for eight people.
Families Support Organ Donation Despite Loss
Sajjanar expressed appreciation for the families of both donors, highlighting their decision to support organ donation in Telangana during a period of profound grief.
He described the families’ decision as a remarkable act that gave other patients an opportunity for a new lease of life.
The organ donations also highlight the impact that families can have by choosing donation after brain death, allowing vital organs to be transplanted into patients in need.
