TGSRTC’s UPI income tops Rs 500 crore in under a year
The Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TGSRTC) has achieved a major milestone in its digital transformation journey, recording ₹505.95 crore in UPI fare collections within just 11 months. The corporation attributed the remarkable growth to the increasing adoption of cashless payments by passengers across Telangana.
According to TGSRTC, more than 42.75 crore digital tickets were issued through UPI during the period, highlighting the growing preference for quick and convenient digital transactions among daily commuters.
Daily UPI Collections Rise to ₹2.5 Crore
The corporation said its daily UPI collections have witnessed exponential growth since the service was introduced. What began with collections of around ₹2,000 per day during the initial rollout has now surged to nearly ₹2.5 crore daily. TGSRTC’s UPI income tops Rs 500 crore in under a year.
Officials said the sharp increase reflects the widespread acceptance of digital payment methods and the success of TGSRTC’s efforts to modernize its ticketing system.
Digital Ticketing Registers Over 1,100% Growth
TGSRTC data shows an extraordinary rise in digital ticket issuance over the past year.
- March 2025: 5.25 lakh UPI tickets issued
- June 2026: 64.17 lakh UPI tickets issued
This represents a growth of more than 1,122% in digital ticket sales.
Similarly, monthly revenue generated through UPI payments increased significantly:
- March 2025: ₹5.41 crore
- June 2026: ₹73.90 crore
The corporation reported an impressive 1,266% increase in monthly UPI collections during the same period.
TGSRTC Aims for 100% Cashless Travel
TGSRTC Executive Director M. Rajashekhar said the rapid increase in UPI transactions reflects passengers’ trust in the corporation’s digital initiatives.
He noted that commuters previously faced inconvenience due to the lack of exact change while purchasing tickets from bus conductors. With the introduction of UPI payments, ticketing has become faster, more transparent, and more convenient for passengers. TGSRTC’s UPI income tops Rs 500 crore in under a year.
Rajashekhar added that TGSRTC is now working towards achieving 100% cashless travel, making Telangana’s public transport system a model for digital payment adoption in India.
Digital Expansion Across Telangana
The corporation’s digital payment initiative began as a pilot project at selected depots, including Dilsukhnagar and Bandlaguda, before being expanded to buses across the state.
Today, passengers can conveniently purchase tickets using UPI QR code payments in various TGSRTC services, including Palle Velugu and Express buses. The corporation said it will continue upgrading its technology infrastructure to introduce more efficient digital services and enhance passenger convenience. Financial Turnaround Strengthens TGSRTC
The rapid growth in digital collections comes just months after TGSRTC announced a financial surplus of ₹1,059 crore, marking its first major financial turnaround in more than a decade.
Officials attributed the improved financial performance to higher passenger occupancy, disciplined expenditure, better operational efficiency, increased non-ticket revenue, and the successful implementation of digital payment systems.
With cashless ticketing gaining momentum, TGSRTC believes digital payments will continue to improve operational transparency, reduce cash handling, speed up ticket issuance, and provide a smoother travel experience for millions of passengers across Telangana.
